Monsoon Fury Disrupts Life Across Maharashtra as Heavy Rain Batters Mumbai; Delhi-NCR Gets Relief from Heat
Heavy monsoon rainfall disrupted normal life across Maharashtra as Mumbai recorded more than 200 mm of rain, triggering widespread waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and a red alert for Palghar, where schools were closed. Meanwhile, rain and strong winds brought relief from heat and humidity across Delhi-NCR despite causing traffic congestion during peak commuting hours.
The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for Palghar district amid the continuing spell of heavy rainfall. As a precautionary measure, all schools in Palghar district were closed to ensure the safety of students and staff.
More than 200 mm of rainfall was recorded in several parts of Mumbai, highlighting the intensity of the monsoon activity. Heavy rain continued unabated in Vasai, Virar, and Nalasopara, where persistent showers led to significant waterlogging. Several roads in Nalasopara were inundated, disrupting traffic and slowing vehicular movement. The administration appealed to residents to leave their homes only if absolutely necessary, citing the ongoing adverse weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the weather turned pleasant in the Delhi-NCR region as widespread rainfall accompanied by strong winds brought much-needed relief from heat and humidity. However, the rain also created inconvenience for commuters during the morning rush hour. People travelling to schools and offices faced delays as traffic slowed considerably on major roads due to the wet conditions.
The contrasting weather conditions across Maharashtra and Delhi-NCR underscore the widespread impact of the monsoon, with torrential rain triggering disruptions in one region while providing relief from oppressive weather in another. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as heavy rainfall remains a concern in several affected areas.
